Gun cleaning classes now available upon request. This is available in the classroom, or 1 on 1 in home, and is limited to current standard semi-auto pistols, revolvers, and AR's.
New 2024 Colorado Laws for Concealed Handgun Permits require longer class time, and live fire shooting qualification.
Colorado "Basic CCW for permit" class - $150
This Basic CCW for permit class is not a shooting class.
Class will cover the necessary information for concealed carry. You must be at least 21 years old, and must be a Colorado resident with a valid Colorado driver’s license, non Colorado residents must contact us in advance for special consideration. No guns or ammo allowed in classroom! There is shooting required in this class. After successfully completing this class you will receive an official certificate of training that meets Colorado Revised Statutes for your concealed carry permit. This class is available regardless of previous shooting experience, you don’t have to own a gun, previous shooting experience is recommended. Students will take a simple written test at the end of this class.
Only properly registered students allowed in class; family, friends, children, and guests will not be admitted to watch or attend.
You must preregister for this class in advance:
Preregister at https://citizen-1.com/contact. Registration closes 24 hours before the class. You MUST use your FULL name exactly as it appears on your driver’s license, and complete address as it appears on your driver’s license. This exact information is needed for the CCW Certificate, incorrect info will get your permit denied at the county. There may be an additional charge of $25 to reissue a corrected certificate if the original information provided was not correct.
Things you need to bring to class:
- Your current Drivers License
- Cash for class payment, or use the payment tab at the top of this page.
- A handgun and at least 50-75 rounds.
- Beverage and snack for yourself.
- your NRA membership number if you have one.

Citizen-1 instructors are NRA Certified Instructors that meet the Colorado Revised Statutes legal requirement for Concealed Handgun Permits. Non NRA certified instructors may not meet the Colorado legal requirement.

Introduction to Gun Safety and CCW - Certified**

This course was designed for the Arvada Rifle & Pistol Club (ARPC) members. The information covered is;

This Basic CCW for permit class is an enhanced Safety class and not a beginner instructional class for shooting.
Previous shooting experience is strongly recommended and preferred. Students will take a CCW Examination at the end of this class; you must pass the class to receive your certificate.
#1 - Introduction To Guns and Safety - non certified*

This course presents basic handgun identification, operation, safety, awareness, and handling.
Beginners can add a class below at a discount to make a package deal.
#2 - Gun Safety and Basic Concealed Handgun for Permit Class(CCW) - certified**

approximately 8 hours(new Colorado Law)
This course presents gun safety, basic techniques for shooting, carrying and using a concealed handgun. This course meets the Colorado requirement to apply for a Concealed Handgun Permit(CHP). Students who successfully complete this class will receive a certificate that can be used for the CHP application. Shooting experience is strongly suggested before taking this class.
#3 - Beginning Intro to Guns and Basic CCW Class, #1 & #2 Combined - certified**

This course presents a combination of #1 and #2 for beginners.
#4 - NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting and Gun Safety, live shooting required - certified**

approximately 8 hours
This is the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting course. This course is more detailed and involved than the Introduction or Basics of Pistol Shooting courses, and will present intermediate shooting techniques and skills, selection and use. Live fire is required for this course.
#5 - Enhanced CCW Class, qualifies for Permit, live shooting required - certified**

Prerequisite of a prior pistol class preferred, but not required.

This course presents a more advanced and tactical approach than the CHP course in the areas of using a concealed handgun. Students will learn options for concealed carry, and techniques to draw and shoot from a concealed carry position.
#6 - Intro To Shooting Handguns PACKAGE

This package includes; Gun Safety, Introduction to handguns, home storage information, gun cleaning, learn to handle your gun, shooting range introduction procedures and safety rules, transporting your gun, how to shoot(dry fire), free safety glasses, free hearing protection, free dummy rounds(based on availability), free basic pistol cleaning kit.
#7 - Live Fire or Shooting Range Assistance

We will go to the range with you, evaluate, coach, and present improvements to your shooting, or just be there for support. If you are new to a shooting range, we will walk you through the entire process from beginning to end.

* non certified means that no official certificate will be issued, only a participant and completion certificate. This certificate of completion is good for younger students, and those who just want to show they know basic gun safety.
** certified indicates that an official certificate will be issued by an NRA Certified Instructor that qualifies for a CCW-CHP permit in Colorado, and may or may not be an official NRA certified course.
